Just like every other mom posting on the internet, I can’t believe my little burrito is already one. I am slightly embarrassed to admit that I still have no words to express how this little one has changed my heart and my life; nothing I write here can even begin to capture my thoughts or emotions. So, after thinking about it for two weeks, I have decided that I won’t try yet. The words will come when the time is right.
Suffice it to say, I can’t imagine my life without him. He has taught me about love and joy in their purest and fullest forms. He has given my life greater purpose and meaning. My heart swells at the thought of his face and sweet smile, even at 3 o’clock in the morning when he sometimes still wants to nurse. He is the best part of everyday.
Here are some pictures of his birthday weekend festivities:
The Man of the Hour: The birthday boy changed into his second outfit of the day before the party even started because he barfed on himself after eating the marshmallow pictured below.
The BEST Birthday Surprise: ALL of Carter’s out of town uncles from both sides of the family separately decided to surprise us with a weekend visit; David Agoo (Taiwanese for mother’s brother) flew in from New York, Uncle Chris (and family) and Uncle Rob drove in from Utah. The last time both of our entire families were gathered together was nearly five years ago at our wedding. This weekend reunion was a miraculous and joyful blessing that could only have been arranged on high. This special little guy brings people together.
The Birthday Party: Panda themed inspired by the baby panda in the DC zoo actually named Bao Bao. Naturally, we served tacos to go with our panda theme. Because why not? We love tacos! Thanks to all the friends and family who made his birthday so special.
Playing in the Water: Easily Carter’s favorite part of his first birthday party.
(Failed) Cake Smash and (Successful) Cake Cutting: The pictures say it all. A big fat thank you to my amazing, creative, craft-genius friend, Katie, for the adorable cake!
The Afterparty: Because every good party has an afterparty. I know this from extensive experience in the party scene. Just kidding. I probably saw it in a movie before I passed out unceremoniously on the couch at 9:30 pm on a Friday night.
Celebrations on Carter’s Actual Birthday: Feeling pretty proud of my homemade studio, DIY lanterns and handwritten board. The pictures capture the 10 seconds Carter was actually interested in his gifts; the rest of the time, he was just trying to eat the tissue paper.
Check out his stank face in our one family picture from the entire weekend:
Hugs and kisses to my Bao Bao who is growing up way too fast. I love you.
